Genitive prepositions are prepositions that usually require the genitive case (Genitiv). The noun or pronoun that comes after these prepositions must be in the genitive form.

These prepositions are more common in formal German, written German, news language, and academic texts. In everyday spoken German, some of them are sometimes replaced by other structures, but learners should still know them well.
